The journalist's inquiry and Pace's response about Guido's film within Federico Fellini's film 8 1/2 foreshadows much of the critical consensus that Federico Fellini's 1963 meta-cinematic masterpiece ranks as an exemplary art film. ![]() For, only when viewed as an act of sublimation, the article concludes, can Fellini's film be recognized as a work of art and as a film that transforms the nature of cinema. Ultimately, Fellini focuses on Guido's inhibitive symptom formation as a means for his film to formally illustrate the drive of artistic sublimation.
